Information for Parents

WELCOME TO THE ART OF DANCE!

In addition to the information provided below, please make sure to also review our Policy Handbook as it contains important information regarding your child's enrolment at the Art of Dance. The purpose of the handbook is to provide useful information to our clients and to ensure a close working relationship between parents/students and staff. We hope that the policies presented in this handbook will allow for better communication and present guidelines on our procedures to ensure that your concerns are addressed accordingly. We hope that each student's dance education is safe and enjoyable, and want to assure you that each member of our staff is dedicated to bringing "the art of dance" into your lives. Should you have any questions or concerns, please contact the studio by telephone at 459.8588 or send us an email with your telephone number so we can call you.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Both the Student Registration Form (complete with liability waiver) must be signed and returned to the office together with a completed Group Competition/Festival form.
  2. Please read our Policy Handbook for some valuable information.
  3. We communicate to the students and parents through the Bulletin Board and Family Envelopes. Four newsletters a year, plus various notes with information will be in your envelopes. Please ensure that you or your child removed the contents of the envelope once a week, but replace the empty envelope back into the filing bin for reuse.
  4. WATCHING DAYS HAPPEN TWICE A YEAR in October/November and again in February/March. It is very important that you be in attendance the first watching day as competitions and costumes will be discussed. (Please note that parents are responsible for the cost of costumes.)
  5. Pictures are taken in May at the dance studio, and can be ordered at that time. Students must come dressed and ready in full costume and makeup, and there will be individual as well as group shots, so it is important everyone in the class be present.
  6. The year-end recital is our big year-end production, and will usually be held at the Dow Centennial Centre in Fort Saskatchewan or at The Northern Jubilee Auditorium. Tickets must be purchased at the front desk and may be of limited availability depending on the venue. All classes will participate and will require a costume.
  7. Information about various events, workshops, the annual studio sleepover, and summer school held throughout the year will be placed in family envelopes and on the Bulletin Board so please check regularly.
  8. Monday statutory holiday dance classes are rescheduled and notification will be handed out in late September detailing class make-up dates. They are usually rescheduled on the Friday following the holiday at the regularly scheduled class time (Thanksgiving and Victoria Day only). All other Mondays will run as usual.
  9. Post-dated cheques and a valid credit card are required at the time of registration. The first payment will cover both September and June fees. From October to May, the fees due are for the month in question and due at the first of the month.
  10. A costume deposit of $40 for each choreography class will be due by October 31st.

Registrations forms are available online but must be completed and turned in to the front desk (adult registration forms are here). A non-refundable registration fee of $20 per family must be submitted at the time of registration.
